Land of Nod

Hello from the Red Berry.  I've been so excited to let you know that we've started the bedrooms! Our room and Sunshine & John's room are being done simutaniously.  We tore the wall down between our two bedrooms. And instead of studding out the wall and building a new one, we decided to add french doors.  I think I already told you about that.  It adds so much light to the rooms and character.  It feels like a bedroom suite, but it's two bedrooms.  We replaced the old window with a cute, cute, cute, cottage window.  It's just dreamy.  We also repurposed some boards to make the wall where our bed will go.  I painted the chimney, on our side, white.
*Note my trusty little, furry, helper.  She is always by my side.

As for the drywall, we got the best in the business (not even joking).  Walboy is very sought after in Lancaster county and he does high end stuff that no one else can do.  He also happens to be my uncle (lucky me!) I'm going to try to upload the video but in case it doesn't work, I want to tell you what he did.  We wanted to leave some of the beams exposed in our bedroom.  Instead of piecing the drywall on the ceiling around the beams, Walboy individually cut each beam out and placed ONE piece of drywall up. That means no seams!! It was pretty impressive. (nice shirt Wallboy!) Yes, that's me helping to carry the 10 foot pieces of drywall! The next day, Superman finished hanging the rest of the drywall with the exception of where the little closet goes.

Ladybug and her mama came up and our goal was to get the mama's room completely torn out which meant taking down that awful cieling.  Sunshine wanted to tear it out herself, so I took pictures.  When she pulled on the first piece of drywall, the whole thing came crashing down! It was pretty scary.  It was not held up by much.  Needless to say, the rest of the cieling came down in a snap.  Then clean up, clean up, clean up.  Finding a stopping point is hard because one thing leads to another.  We decided to tear out part of the hallway because the cieling needed to be taken down and critter holes needed to be blocked up before we could proceed.  Remember the big hole in the wall that we thought was a secret passage way? Well, we tore that out and Superman built a new tiny little storage area.

We got a new bedroom door! Well, we all did.  Lowes had a special order of these cool doors that someone cancelled.  We got these doors for 1/3 of the original cost!  Score!!  We got enough doors for every bedroom, the bathroom, and the basement door.  They are so cute and cottage like.  I love them! They are going to really pull the whole look together.  I love these doors!  Sorry, I already said that.  ( check out the little photo bomber!)

There are so many "little things" that are time consuming, it sometimes feels like we aren't making progress. For example, we had to pull every single little nail from the beams, rafters, floor, and wood wall in Sunshine's room. Superman jacked up the house and slid the steal beam in place. He also jacked up the roof and nailed in a support beam.  I spend a lot of time filling in holes and cracks where critters could potentially get in.  I also cleaned out a bunch of old critter nests.  This is all big  stuff but it looks like we haven't been doing anything.  But then before you know it, another room is done.  So hang in there, the best is yet to come.
